The V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National Medical University was founded in November 1804 in accordance with Tsar Alexander I’s charter. The university made an important contribution to the Ukrainian national renaissance from the nineteenth to the twentieth centuries. The V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University is widely recognised as Ukraine’s scientific and academic centre.
V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University is Ukraine’s only university that has produced world-renowned researchers, scholars, educators, biologists, economists, and Nobel laureates.
Since its inception, the university has graduated approximately 130,000 students. Sixty university graduates are academicians and members of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences (UNAS). In the Kharkiv region, the university has established a higher education system.
The V.N.Karazin Kharkiv National University is an active member of the international community of leading European and World universities, thanks to extensive international cooperation.In October 1999, the university was designated a National University and named after its founder, V.N. Karazin.
