Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust, founded by academic visionary Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan, built the harath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in 1984. In 2019, NIRF ranked the institute 36th for University. Sree Balaji College of Nursing, Chennai, Sree Balaji College of Physiotherapy, Chennai, Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), Chennai, and Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences (SLIMS), Puducherry are the four institutions that make up the Sree Balaji Group. It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) (AIU). It is also NAAC-accredited with the highest grade of ‘A’ by the Indian government. It provides undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as research-level programmes like PhDs, in a variety of subjects like management, engineering, science, and the humanities.
